Tourism in Balestrand builds upon long traditions. Good opportunities for fishing and mountain hiking. Balestrand has several art galleries and historical sights. The Balestrand Hostel has recently built an activity centre by the fjord. Aquariums, models and a slide show illustrate life in the Sognefjord. Folk music and outdoor activities, e.g. barbeque and fishing. Balestrand hostel offers different kinds of accommodation – single room, double room and family room. Single bed(shared) accommodation is also available.
Location: Balestrand Youth and Family Hostel (Balestrand Vandrerhjem) is located by the Sognefjord in Sogn og Fjordane. The Hostel is not far away from the ferryport, with ferries to Bergen, Sogndal, Fjaerland and Flam. By car over the Vikafjell mountain, you must take the Vangsnes-Dragsvik ferry. From Bergen you can take the Oppdal-Lavik ferry, then E39 to Vadheim and then RV 55 to Balestrand. If you are coming from the east, you will take the Hella-Dragsvik ferry. From the north you will take RV 13 over Gaularfjellet (Gaular mountains), and from the west you can take RV 55.
